AI form check
AI Overhead Press
form check.
Film a set of strict presses, upload it, and the AI scores every rep. It checks that each press finishes in a real overhead lockout, that the bar travels straight up, and that your legs and lower back stay out of the lift.
Every rep, scored
What the AI checks on your overhead press.
- Lockout
- Your elbow angle is measured at the top of every rep. Presses that finish below about 150 degrees are flagged as incomplete lockouts.
- Bar path
- Horizontal bar travel is measured through each rep, flagging a press that drifts forward or wanders instead of going straight up.
- Lean back
- Your trunk angle is tracked all rep long. Leaning back more than about 25 degrees to sneak under the bar gets flagged.
- Leg drive
- Knee angle changes are measured on every rep, so a strict press that quietly turns into a push press gets called out.
- Symmetry
- Left and right elbow angles and wrist heights are compared at lockout, flagging one-sided presses.
Common faults
Mistakes it catches.
- Soft lockout
- Finishing the press with bent elbows, the most common flag on heavy sets. The report shows how far each rep fell short.
- Turning it into a push press
- Knees bending to bounce the bar off the dip, detected by knee angle change during the rep.
- Excessive lean back
- Arching backward to press around the head instead of through it, which shifts the load onto the lower back.
- Bar drifting forward
- The bar looping out in front instead of traveling straight over the shoulders, wasting pressing power.

Each rep is scored with specific flags and the cues to fix the biggest issue first.
Questions, answered
Overhead Press form check, explained.
- How do I film my overhead press for a form check?
- Set your phone at chest height a few meters to your side, with your whole body and the bar in frame including the full overhead position. A side view lets the AI read lean back and bar path accurately.
- Can AI tell a strict press from a push press?
- Yes. The analyzer measures your knee angle through every rep, and a knee bend change over about 15 degrees means legs entered the lift. Each rep is flagged individually, so you can see where strictness broke down.
- What counts as a full overhead lockout?
- The analyzer checks your elbow angle at the top of each rep against roughly 150 degrees of extension, and also verifies your wrists finish over your shoulders. Reps below the standard are flagged with the deficit.
- What does the overhead press report include?
- Per-rep verdicts on lockout, horizontal bar drift, backward lean, leg drive, and left-right symmetry at the top, plus tempo timing for the press and the lowering phase of every rep.
