The play-by-play
How to do it.
- Step 01
Sit in the leg press machine and position feet at the bottom edge of the platform
- Step 02
Straighten your legs almost fully, keeping a slight bend in the knees
- Step 03
Release the safety catches and keep legs locked in position throughout
- Step 04
Push the platform away by extending your ankles, pressing through the balls of your feet
- Step 05
Hold the top contraction briefly, squeezing your calves
- Step 06
Slowly lower the platform back by dorsiflexing your ankles for a deep stretch

Keep knees nearly locked throughout — only the ankles should move
Use a full range of motion for maximum calf activation
Avoid bouncing at the bottom of the rep
