How to do it.

  1. Step 01

    Sit in the leg press machine and position feet at the bottom edge of the platform

  2. Step 02

    Straighten your legs almost fully, keeping a slight bend in the knees

  3. Step 03

    Release the safety catches and keep legs locked in position throughout

  4. Step 04

    Push the platform away by extending your ankles, pressing through the balls of your feet

  5. Step 05

    Hold the top contraction briefly, squeezing your calves

  6. Step 06

    Slowly lower the platform back by dorsiflexing your ankles for a deep stretch

What separates good from great

Pro cues.

  • Keep knees nearly locked throughout — only the ankles should move

  • Use a full range of motion for maximum calf activation

  • Avoid bouncing at the bottom of the rep
